ARTfarm miniFRUITY Saturday PopUp: 10/25/2025, 10:30-11:30am: Dragonfruit and Pomegranates!

After our usual hurricane season pause, a new round of dragonfruit is ready to enjoy, plus pomegranates and a few herbs! Come say hello to Farmer Luca and send your good vibes to this year’s tomato seedlings!

Interested in volunteering this season? Come talk with Luca about opportunities to learn and help out with things like garden preparation, raking, weeding and ongoing fence repairs from the fire.

A new batch of dragonfruit is ripening on the ARTfarm vines. Our dragonfruit are sweet and juicy! Especially the ones with red and pink inner fruit!

In other farm news, in case you missed our September update: we are working on farm fire recovery, and a few lovely volunteers have continued to help us repair downed and destroyed fencing. We are purchasing new electric fencing, irrigation equipment and other replacement supplies with funds donated for fire disaster relief. We are deeply grateful to all of you who donated, and thanks to the VI Good Food Coalition for all their hard work organizing and fundraising.

Volunteers, now is the time! Swing by during the farmstand, or send us a message – we’re gearing up for season.

Beautiful late summer dragonfruits. These drought-tolerant pithayas are sweet and refreshing in the hot days of July, August and September! Sometimes all the way to Halloween!

ARTfarm NYE Tuesday: sweet/spicy SALAD MIXes, fruit & herbs! 12/31/24, 4:30 – 5:30pm

Tomatoes are forming and ripening!

Happy holidays all, here comes 2025! Tuesday afternoon we’ll have sweet salad mix, baby arugula and spicy mix! Also a few fruits and herbs for the early birds. New Years Eve ARTfarm PopUp 4:30 – 5:30pm

We’ve been trialing black paper mulch this year with the watermelons and tomatoes, and both are growing nicely and forming fruits. Caterpillars are starting to lessen their impact on young plants. Papayas are recovering and very productive.

Ask about volunteering on the farm, or tell a friend if you know someone who might be interested in learning more about sustainable, regenerative gardening practices — we would love some help in the gardens and with a few other tasks as well.

No reservations; first come, first served.

malabar chestnuts
Malabar chestnuts, or saba nuts, can be cooked or eaten raw. Yum!

All kinds of fruit are delicious on salads (and maybe, some malabar chestnuts too!). We have so much salad! The perfect little rain showers and cooler days have made it possible. Come on out for a one hour Wednesday afternoon pop-up farmstand from 5:30pm – 6:30pm at ARTfarm on the South Shore. Thanks again to Chef Lisa Coates for the haiku inspo.

As last week, there are farm goodies to be had as the tomato season wanes and we get into the fruitier time of year. Try a small bag of malabar chestnuts – these hazelnut sized treats are pre-hulled for you – beautiful to handle and look at, with a delicious delicate soft nut inside the stripy outer skin (you can easily crack on a solid surface and peel with your fingers). They can be enjoyed raw or roasted or cooked or made into flour… a fun snack.
