ARTfarm holiday weekend schedule: OPEN!

Greetings ARTfarm family! We will be open on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, at our regular hours of 3–6 p.m. We will have our regular assortment of freshly made salad greens, herbs, plenty of tomatoes for everyone, and other typical ARTfarm goodies.

In the media: Luca appeared briefly on the Fresh From The Farm talk show hosted by Mr. Errol Chichester on Saturday morning from 7 to 8am on WSTX-AM 970. It was a lively discussion, for two men who were both a little sleepy at that hour.

They also tell us ARTfarm will be in the Avis and the St. Croix Source on Monday to divulge some of the details of our encounter with Martha Stewart. Martha’s sister has also informed us that there will be a post about us on Martha’s blog on Monday and Tuesday at themarthablog.com — Enjoy. And if anyone has an extra copy of the Avis article, please bring us one!20140119-152817.jpg

Red Violin Tomatoes at ARTfarm today! 3–6 p.m.

While these incredible tomatoes resemble Elizabeth Pitcairn’s beautiful Stradivarius, they will not set you back seven figures! 20140113-134445.jpg
Today’s afternoon farmstand: microgreens, sweet salad mix, lots and lots of plentiful slicer tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes in every color of the rainbow except perhaps blue, cherry tomatoes, beautiful carrots, onions with gigundous green edible tops, purple yard long beans, the usual plethora of fresh herbs including cilantro, basil, garlic chives and more; and Mediterranean figs for dessert.

Saturday ARTfarm – Take it From the Top!

Open 10am – 12 noon down the South Shore this morning: ARTfarm sweet salad mix, spicy salad mix, cucumbers, radishes, onions with giant delicious green tops, heirloom tomatoes, slicer tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, Bodhi (yard long purple) beans, carrots with giant tops, sweet peppers, eggplant, hot chili peppers, thyme, sage, rosemary, mint, dill, Italian basil, holy basil, Thai basil, lemon basil, parsley, cilantro, recao, lemongrass, fresh ginger root, kale, broccoli, red mustard greens, sweet potato greens, Kan Kong Asian water spinach, Mediterranean figs, sweet potatoes, last of the sweet corn, passionfruits, and a rainbow of zinnia flowers.

Don’t Forget Your Top: don’t forget when purchasing vegetables with green tops, that those tops are edible and delicious. Most people know that they can cook the leafy tops of beets, and that the tops of our onions can be chopped and used as scallions in cooking or raw over a salad. Did you also know that carrot tops are tasty and nutritious in soups and sauces? Radish greens can be used like arugula. Sweet potato greens are sweet, crunchy and tangy when cooked. So next time you pick up a bunch of fresh root vegetables with the tops intact, explore your inner bunny and nibble on the tops of the garden!
