ARTfarm Saturday Coronavirus Precautions: Reserve a Box for Pickup 3/14/20, Limited Supply, Farmstand Canceled.

March 13th, 2020. Good morning, dear loyal ARTfarm customers. We hope everyone is feeling healthy.

After carefully reading through the escalating and almost surreal coronavirus/COVID-19 news reports, and strong recommendations for social distancing by epidemiologists around the globe and our USVI Governor Albert Bryan Jr. this morning, AND considering our family and customer demographics, limited local health care resources, and the risks associated, we have decided to temporarily change our produce distribution plan and curtail regular farmstands for the the next few weeks at a minimum, to avoid crowds of people coming into personal contact with each other and with us, at the farm.

We will NOT BE OPEN for retail shopping on Saturday. We are going to try an experiment in ‘box sales’ ONLY for Saturday. The first 40 people to sign up with the form at the bottom of this here webpage can opt for one pre-selected, pre priced box of ARTfarm produce, to be delivered right to your car window from our ‘drive-through’ parking lot on Saturday, in staggered pick up shifts.

We will have 10 large and 30 small ‘boxes’ available, and you, our customers, will commit arriving in one of three pick up shifts to avoid long waits, traffic issues and crowds forming.

Small box, $15, Budget Shopper, will include:

  • 1 bag of sweet salad mix
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 assorted herb bunches
  • 1 bag of a mix of ginger and turmeric
  • 1 onion mini bunch

SOLD OUT Large box, $61, Veggie Lover, will include:

  • 2 bags of sweet salad mix
  • 1 bag of baby spicy salad mix
  • 1 bag of baby arugula
  • 1 pint of cherry tomatoes
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 bunch of cooking greens
  • 2 assorted herb bunches
  • 1 bag of a mix of ginger and turmeric
  • 1 bunch of onions

We apologize for the inconvenience. We know how much our customers enjoy socializing and choosing their own produce items. We are also sorry about the sudden dip in tomato and watermelon production. But there is still much to be grateful for. Here’s how to get a box of fresh harvested ARTfarm goodness Saturday:

  1. To reserve a box, please fill in the box order form at the bottom of this webpage ( completely with your name, phone number, email address, name and phone number of pickup person, and choose your preference for box size and pickup time. One box per customer (unless demand is low by late Friday). It is by online reservation only and you MUST COMMIT to pickup! Super bad karma if you reserve and don’t show up or call. Please help us help the community.
  2. We will respond by email to give you an order number, confirm your requested box size and pick up time, and your total; or let you know if you’re on the standby list.
  3. Please arrive at the requested time to pick up your box. Please bring your own box, basket or shopping bag that we can transfer your box of food into, and exact change or a check for payment at pickup.

Please know that we are trying this method to distribute food to as many folks as possible with limited contact, to increase health outcomes in the community. We are not allowing any substitutions in the boxes. If there is an item you don’t like, please take it home and share it with a neighbor, or you can opt to leave it with us and we will distribute it to the next lucky customer. These are prix fixe prices, so similar to a CSA, we will not substitute or adjust the cost of a box if you refuse an item. Again, please BRING EXACT CHANGE or a check made out to ARTfarm LLC, we want to keep these transactions brief.

We hope everyone will make smart choices over the next days and weeks, and stay healthy and community-minded during this unprecedented global health crisis. Please remember that even if you feel you personally are not ill or at serious risk from the coronavirus/COVID-19, you, your family members or coworkers could be asymptomatic but unknowingly spread the virus until it reaches someone who is vulnerable. Show your elders you care!

We are, personally, temporarily moving to virtual hugs and social distancing to help slow and stagger the inevitable spread of this virus in our community. You can always send and receive ARTfarm love through social media, our website, email or texting for the next few weeks or until the epidemic risk has lessened.

This is an experiment, so please feel free to leave us feedback on the box concept and selections. We may adjust the offerings in subsequent weeks. We welcome your thoughts.

ARTfarm Healthy Lifestand 10am – 12noon

Seasoning peppers are pungent little packages of intense fruity pepper flavor with no (or extremely mild) heat. They look like scotch bonnets, and some folks assume that’s what they are, but these things have all the fragrance of the scotch bonnet with none of the pain factor. They ‘taste like the Caribbean’, as Farmer Luca likes to say. They are amazing to add to all kinds of dishes and sauces, and impart a smoky kind of flavor.

One of the great secrets to really tasty food preparation is just to start with really good fresh ingredients. If you do that, you can keep things very simple and they will taste incredible.

This Saturday’s farmstand, 10am – 12noon: welcome to February! Tomato incredibleness continues, with even more heirlooms (please don’t squeeze), loads of fresh sweet salad mix, teen arugula, baby ‘almost micro’ spicy salad mix, tons of figs, beautiful seasoning peppers, sweet bell peppers, assorted spicy hot peppers, no-peel baby ginger and turmeric, lettuce heads, various cooking greens, dandelion greens, endive, Italian basil, lemon basil, Thai basil, holy basil, cilantro, dill, garlic chives, a few bunches of parsley, sage, French breakfast radishes, baby carrots, butternut squash, Thai pumpkin (so so so good with edible skin), and zinnia flowers.

Early birds will also choose from a few bunches of scallions and onions, some watermelon, some cucumbers, and the first of our Hawaiian sweet corn.

See you in the morning!

Sweet-n-Spicy Saturday 10am-12noon

Check out and share our GoFundMe page at …and a huge thank you to everyone who has donated!

Love, ARTfarm

Saturday 10am – 12 noon, Cukes & Watermelon

Sorry for the late notice! We just got in from transplanting more lettuce and some scallions for you folks by flashlight!!

Yes we will be open tomorrow (Saturday) December 1st for our regular Saturday hours, 10am – 12 noon.

You want the good news first or the bad news?

Good news: we have in the morning for ya: good quantities of three kinds of watermelon (including a yellow one!), TONS of delicious cucumbers (two kinds), butternut squash, a few bags of baby arugula and baby spicy salad mix, spicy radishes (become completely mild when cooked), turnip greens, Italian basil, lemon basil, Thai basil, garlic chives, dill, small amounts of cilantro, rosemary, lemongrass, holy basil, cheerful cut zinnia flowers, pineapple plants, and native trees

Bad news: lots of our lettuce is still too small after all the caterpillar carnage and rain damage, so no sweet mix until next week, probably Wednesday.

We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you in the morning!
