Wednesday 3-5:30pm, Saturday 21st Schedule Change

It is the PLENTY time of the year. We’re going to have tons of salad, tomatoes and watermelon for the Wednesday farmstand (even after the first half hour!) and quite a few figs for those determined early birds. Sweet salad mix, spicy salad mix, arugula, tomatoes (heirlooms and slicers and cherry tomatoes), loads of multicolored watermelon, dandelion greens, radishes, papayas, passionfruit, figs, Italian basil, lemon basil, Thai basil, holy basil, garlic chives, cilantro, parsley, dill, recao, green Serrano chilies, green Indian chilies, Mesilla chili peppers, onions, scallions, baby ginger with thin skin, cut flowers. From Fiddlewood Farm we’ve got fresh local goat cheese medallions. (Our goat cheese supply will be gradually, temporarily dwindling as the goats have new baby kids! The dairy continues to expand!)

There is a fairly well publicized Women’s Walk taking place on Saturday, January 21st, in Christiansted between 10am and 12. Quite a large number of our customers will be attending as well as some of our helpers. Road access getting out to the South Shore may also be blocked temporarily. So on this coming Saturday, we will have a delayed opening and serve our customers from 3 PM till 5:30 PM. We hope this does not put a crimp in your shopping routine.

There was a decided lack of flora at last Saturday’s stand, for good reason. We were saving up all our blooms and letting them get their biggest for a wedding we’ve planned for since October! We did a huge flower haul early Monday morning. Our destination bride arrived with family to collect buckets of zinnias, sunflowers, wildflowers, olive branches, and dill and cilantro flowers. What better way to zen out before your big day than with diy flower arranging and bouquet making?

Love, ARTfarm

Finely chop one bunch of scallions,  one serano pepper, and one full bunch of cilantro.

Squeeze one full sour orange into the mix. Salt to taste. Toss and serve.

Luca’s awesome tomato salsa

For a fresh pico de gallo type salsa, chop and combine, according to taste:

A bunch of cilantro

Lots of salt

One or two nice firm green tomatoes

About five ripe slicer tomatoes

Jicama root, about 1/2 a cup cubed

Garlic chives

Sweet peppers

Onion and or scallions

Vinegar or sour orange or lime

Chop it all up fine and toss well. Enjoy it on your chips, beans&rice, in a sandwich with cilantro pesto, or just by the spoonful.
