Big Story: Heirloom Melons

Hunting melons by flashlight. A late harvest of young ginger and pungent Punjabi mini honeydew melons.

Farmer Luca’s latest obsession and favorite treat after a hot day in the fields is watermelon. He has been on a quest to find new or rare heirloom  varieties of melon that are drought tolerant. He has planted a lot of interesting stuff and is learning a lot about cultivating the vines. It’s a challenging crop to grow but he is highly motivated. We truly hope there will be some left for our customers. 😉

Lots of fresh greens from all the rain. Come out for 10 AM tomorrow morning and you’ll find: Sweet salad mix, baby arugula, teen arugula, baby spicy salad mix, teen spicy salad mix, escarole, several kale varieties including tender Ethiopian kale, dandelion greens, onions, scallions, baby carrots, radishes, sweet potatoes, new baby ginger so tender you don’t have to peel it. Farmer Luca with a few of his very favorites.

It has definitely been raining around here for what feels like months. The salad greens are loving it as are many other crops. Come out, come out for the following wonderful treats: Sweet salad mix, baby arugula, baby spicy salad mix, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, onions, radishes, Ethiopian kale, dandelion greens, escarole, kale, recao, garlic chives, Italian basil, lemon basil, Thai basil, holy basil, rosemary, lemongrass, a few bunches of cilantro, papaya, and loads of watermelon.

Luca needs to talk to you about the watermelon. Amazing Ali Baba red flesh, outstanding Strawberry red flesh, and our first favorite Gold Flower yellow flesh. We will also have Japanese sweet mini melons, green, extra crunchy and sweet flesh. And the last of our fall pineapples (will be sold in bagged wedges).
Can’t wait to see all your smiling faces rain or shine tomorrow morning!

Love, ARTfarm

Watermelon, Greens & MORE Greens

A large patch of melon vines stretches from a patch of pink wildflowers in the foreground across a large field to a chicken coop in the distance and the hills and sky beyond.
The melon patch is taking over the farm. We also planted lots of flowers to attract bees this season.
It’s a recount: we will have more salad greens this week than last week. Production is ramping up!

Saturday 10am to 12 noon: Super fresh sweet salad mix, baby arugula, teen arugula, baby spicy salad mix, teen spicy salad mix, loads of yellow fleshed and red fleshed watermelons, tender crunchy cucumbers, radishes, a few sweet potatoes, lots of cooking greens like kale and collards, dandelion greens, Ethiopian kale, escarole, the beginning of our red onions, garlic chives, Italian basil, Thai basil, lemon basil, holy basil, recao, lemongrass, and a few passionfruit and papayas!

Yellow Door Farm will have eggplant, butternut, Swiss chard, poblano peppers and beets.
