Hang onto your hats! This gustery, blustery weather has brought some almost two inches of blessed rain that has taken incessant south shore/east brushfires out of the equation for a few days. The farmers (and VIFS) will be able to relax and sleep better for a bit – under blankets, it’s freeeeezing!
The cool and wet weather is going to give a boost to some crops but it will take a couple of weeks before some of those items (cucumbers, pumpkins, watermelons) are harvested. So look for a little dip in production now, followed by another bump.
Wednesday harvest: Sweet salad mix, baby spicy salad mix, baby arugula, cherry tomatoes, big tomatoes, a few cucumbers, lots of papaya, lots of figs, onions, scallions, recao, dill, cilantro, parsley, garlic chives, ginger, turmeric, assorted peppers, a few bunches of cooking greens, radishes, zinnia flowers, and honey from Errol! And someone’s black umbrella from Saturday. 😉
