ARTfarm SWEETSWEET Saturday PopUp: 7/26/2025, 11am – 12 noon: Sweet Mix, Dragonfruit and Sweet Mangoes to SAMPLE!

ARTfarm has summer salad greens, dragonfruit, PLUS a curated selection of delicious not-so-stringy grafted mangoes for you to try. AND THERE WILL BE SAMPLES!!!

Plenty

  • Sweet salad mix
  • Dragonfruit (red inside!)
  • Thai mangoes (nam doc mai, and pram kai mei, of the silky smooth sweet flesh thin seed variety)
  • Jakarta mangoes (possibly the prettiest and tastiest yet least documented mango)
  • Viequen Butterball mangoes
  • Haitian kidney mangoes
  • Mallika mango (tastes like a super sweet and creamy orange, one of Luca’s favorites)
  • Alphonso mangoes (popular Indian variety)
  • Carrie mangoes (too delicate for stores)
  • Pomegranate (large pink “Chinese Apple” that is definitely not a mango)
  • Turmeric

Nam doc Mai mango

The mango is a fruit that cannot be truly sampled outside of the tropical places where it grows. They can’t really travel. The many times we’ve tried eating them in the states, even from the most hoity-toity of supermarkets, it is just not the same experience whatsoever. A fresh mango is perfumy, succulent, intensely sweet, and highly diverse.

Nam doc Mai mango

ARTfarm Open 7/16/2025 Wednesday 5 to 5:30PM, Mangoes For Miles Mini Popup!

Farmer Luca will be open 5 to 5:30 pm Wednesday at the farm with many many mangoes… plus pomegranates and turmeric. Enjoy!

Plenty

  • Thai mangoes (nam doc mai) – silky smooth yellow buttery flesh, thin seed
  • Jakarta mangoes – possibly the prettiest and tastiest mango
  • Mallika mangos – big and green, taste like a super sweet and creamy orange, often compared to the drink “Tang“, one of Luca’s favorite mangoes
  • Viequen Butterball mangoes – this is a monster big pound and a quarter mango in a good year, but sweet and buttery and almost completely textureless. You can just eat it with a spoon right out of the cheek. Similar to a Clinty Lang. 
  • Haitian kidney mangoes – not to be confused with regular kidney mangoes that are really hairy. These are bigger, with a bit of texture, but not sticking in your teeth. Has a little lemony vibe, mild and warm.
  • Carrie mangoes – rare variety that’s quite delicate, so never sold in stores, but outrageous in flavor with a lack of fiber
  • Pomegranates – large pink, Zürich’s fave
  • Turmeric

We named this mango the ‘Viequen Butterball’ for its size, sweet mellowness and lack of fiber. Tita would bring us these mangoes.
