malabar chestnuts
Malabar chestnuts, or saba nuts, can be cooked or eaten raw. Yum!

All kinds of fruit are delicious on salads (and maybe, some malabar chestnuts too!). We have so much salad! The perfect little rain showers and cooler days have made it possible. Come on out for a one hour Wednesday afternoon pop-up farmstand from 5:30pm – 6:30pm at ARTfarm on the South Shore. Thanks again to Chef Lisa Coates for the haiku inspo.

As last week, there are farm goodies to be had as the tomato season wanes and we get into the fruitier time of year. Try a small bag of malabar chestnuts – these hazelnut sized treats are pre-hulled for you – beautiful to handle and look at, with a delicious delicate soft nut inside the stripy outer skin (you can easily crack on a solid surface and peel with your fingers). They can be enjoyed raw or roasted or cooked or made into flour… a fun snack.

ARTfarm Summer Popup Saturday 8/26/2023, 11 am – 12 noon!

Pitaya fruit is said to be high in magnesium, iron, fiber, and vitamins B2 and C. That means it can help with anxiety and insomnia and keep you healthy!

It’s going to be short, but sweet. Will be open today, Saturday August 26, 2023, for a POP-UP (no reservations, first-come first-serve) farmstand 11 am – 12 noon. We’re still busy behind the scenes at this time of year with maintenance, season prep, family stuff, and working hard to wrap up our WCK project. It’s really coming along! Today at 11am we’ll have:

Plenty of: dragonfruit, ginger root, lemongrass (fever grass), and Haitian kidney and Nam doc mangoes from Alex

A few: dozen eggs, pomegranates, bunches of Italian basil.

Because it’s a quieter time of year, we are not expecting a big crowd. Looking forward to seeing you! Thank you so much.

Unpeeled ARTfarm pineapple slips are priced according to size. From four dollars for the very largest down to one dollar for the smallest slips. These slips, unpeeled, can be stored for several weeks before planting. They are quite tough and hardy. These shown are $3, $2 and $1 each.

See you later!

ARTfarm DragonFruitstand Popup Wednesday 8/16/2023, 5-6pm! Plus, Perfect Mangoes!

Hot days call for ripe, sweet, hydrating cactus treats. We’ve got a bumper crop of bright, sweet pithaya (dragonfruit) in red, pink and white varieties, ready for you to enjoy. We’ve also got some primo mango varieties from Dennis Nash, fresh harvested lemongrass (aka fevergrass – a cooling tea to keep in the fridge these days), ginger and turmeric, and some pineapple slips for planting, so we will be open for a POP-UP (no reservations, first-come first-serve) farmstand in the afternoon, Wednesday, August 16, 2023, 5 – 6pm.

See you Wednesday!
