ARTfarm Wednesday Popup 1/15/25, 5:30 – 6:15pm

Ravishing Radishes! Slice them thin raw and dress like salad, pickle them, roast them, cook the greens like chard… so many delicious options!

As usual at this time of year, it’s a great time to ask about volunteering on the farm, or tell a friend if you know someone who might be interested in learning more about sustainable, regenerative gardening practices — we would love some help in the gardens and with a few other tasks as well.

ARTfarm papayas are SO SWEET! Many folks shy away from papaya, but the fruit contains helpful enzymes to improve digestion. A papaya skin poultice was an old remedy for cuts and burns, and the leaves juiced are just about the bitterest thing you’ll ever consume but is taken to fight mosquito-borne rheumatic fever diseases like dengue and chikungunya. The unripe fruit makes a delicious slaw. If you haven’t been a fan, it is worth another try!

ARTfarm NYE Tuesday: sweet/spicy SALAD MIXes, fruit & herbs! 12/31/24, 4:30 – 5:30pm

Tomatoes are forming and ripening!

Happy holidays all, here comes 2025! Tuesday afternoon we’ll have sweet salad mix, baby arugula and spicy mix! Also a few fruits and herbs for the early birds. New Years Eve ARTfarm PopUp 4:30 – 5:30pm

We’ve been trialing black paper mulch this year with the watermelons and tomatoes, and both are growing nicely and forming fruits. Caterpillars are starting to lessen their impact on young plants. Papayas are recovering and very productive.

Ask about volunteering on the farm, or tell a friend if you know someone who might be interested in learning more about sustainable, regenerative gardening practices — we would love some help in the gardens and with a few other tasks as well.

Trialing black paper mulch on the ARTfarm in the 2024-2025 growing season. Seeing if it makes sense to phase out our reusable permeable woven plastic mulch we’ve used for years, for biodegradable material.
The Mongoose & Zinnia pastured chickens are thrilled with all the caterpillars and fresh grass in their moveable paddock.

ARTfarm Wednesday PM Longan & Dragonfruit Popup 8/7/24, 5:30 – 6:15pm

Low hanging fruit! We love it when people grow their own dragonfruit at home! Great job, Stacey!

Wednesday’s August ARTfarm PopUp features dragonfruit and once again, lots of luscious longan fruits. Also a few herbs and baby pineapple plants. It’s been just a handful of people so come with your gardening questions and keep the farmer company.

TBT: Our adopted border collies, Ginger and Spice (now 11!), vigilantly patrolling the pineapple gardens over the years to discourage rats. We’ve seen these athletic dogs leap all the way over the row of spiny plants during the hunt. This is still a viable and much more entertaining alternative to poisons for controlling crop pests on an organic farm. During dry times there is increased pressure from all pests on farm crops and resources. Good farm dogs make a world of difference.
